I paid £400 for a Prada bag on Vinted only to learn it was fake
Dani Bekyarova-Delev bought a Prada handbag for £400 on Vinted in 2024 and paid for the platform’s authentication service, believing the item was genuine. After a Prada store raised doubts, an independent check found the bag was counterfeit; because she had already accepted the order, Vinted initially refused a refund but reimbursed her after BBC involvement. Vinted said its specialists assess selected items using objective brand and product criteria and that buyers must report concerns within two days, while an authentication expert said a significant number of bags verified by Vinted were later found to be fake. Citizens Advice data showed a 30% annual rise in complaints about counterfeit goods sold online.
