Former Liverpool city centre HMRC offices to become almost 100 flats
A vacant nine-storey former HMRC office building on Exchange Street East in Liverpool is set to be converted into 95 flats after a revised planning application addressed concerns about inadequate daylight. The scheme reduces the original proposal from 106 apartments, retains ground-floor retail units, and adds cycle storage, a gym and 50 basement parking spaces. The building will include 64 one-bedroom and 31 two-bedroom apartments, alongside 130 cycle spaces. Liverpool City Council considers the centrally located development sustainable and recommends approval, despite some rooms only marginally meeting daylight standards. The site was vacated in 2021 after HMRC staff moved to the India Buildings.

‘Special’ £600k Bold Street restaurant up for sale as owners explain why
House of Caesar, a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-themed restaurant on Liverpool’s Bold Street, has been listed for sale at a £350,000 leasehold price after around £600,000 was invested in its refurbishment. Owners Daniel Ball and Mohamad Abbar opened the venue in November 2025 in a former Midland Bank building, adding a mezzanine, new kitchen and bar, restoring original features and expanding capacity to about 150 covers. Ball said the sale had always been envisaged after the redevelopment and that both owners would step back if a buyer is found.
