Danielle Docker, 37, of Rassau in Ebbw Vale, pleaded guilty at Newport Crown Court to assaulting a man and causing actual bodily harm on June 13, 2023. She changed her plea before a jury was sworn in. The judge adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report, left all sentencing options open, and granted Docker conditional bail until sentencing on September 17.

Cwmbran man threatened to decapitate neighbour during feud
Paul Foster, 39, of Cwmbran, was jailed for 17 months after threatening to decapitate his male neighbour and cut the neighbour’s baby in half during a dispute at flats in Croesyceiliog. Cardiff Crown Court heard that Foster also threatened a killing spree and breached a suspended sentence. He pleaded guilty, with his barrister citing anxiety, paranoia, alcohol use and isolation. The judge described the threats as nasty and unpleasant, and imposed five-year restraining orders.

Newport Man Pleads Guilty to GBH Charge After City Attack
Lyndon Taylor, 55, of Beaufort Road, Newport, pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates' Court to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Robert Preston in an assault on November 15, 2025. He was granted unconditional bail while a pre-sentence report is prepared and is due to return to court for sentencing on September 8, with all sentencing options still open.

Newport man jailed for racially aggravated abuse disorder
Curtis Green, 27, of Newport, pleaded guilty to damaging Ishaq Hussain’s window and committing a racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress offence. The court heard that the offences were committed while Green was subject to a suspended sentence order and had previous convictions. He received eight weeks’ imprisonment for criminal damage, to run consecutively with a sentence in another case for a total of 32 weeks, and was ordered to pay £850 compensation and £85 in prosecution costs.

Caerphilly woman caught drink-driving in Morrisons car park
Natalie Ker, 41, pleaded guilty to drink-driving in a Morrisons car park in Caerphilly, with a recorded blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. Newport Magistrates' Court imposed a community order lasting until August 2027, including 90 hours of unpaid work and up to 10 days of rehabilitation activity. Ker was disqualified from driving for 40 months and ordered to pay £564 in costs and surcharge.

South Wales firefighters tackle 14 blazes in just one day
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded to 14 simultaneous wildfires during a period of exceptionally high temperatures and severe dry conditions. The scale of the emergency has required mutual aid from fire services across the UK and the deployment of more than 100 military personnel, including Gurkha and engineer units equipped with water bowsers and supporting fire-break construction and logistics. Smoke has affected visibility and residents’ health in parts of Gwent, while officials are urging the public to avoid activities that could cause fires, report suspected deliberate fire-setting and stay away from incident areas. Despite cooler temperatures being expected, fire chiefs warn that the lack of significant rainfall means the risk of further outbreaks remains high.

Christopher Wills, 47, of Cwmbran, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to eight months and seven days in prison after repeatedly breaching sex offender registration requirements, failing to sign on weekly at a designated police station, and failing twice to surrender to bail. He also pleaded guilty to refusing to provide a non-intimate sample for a Class A drug test, for which no separate penalty was imposed. Military joins response to fires in Newport and Caerphilly
Around 100 soldiers from the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, supported by the 22 Engineer Regiment, have been deployed across South Wales to help respond to wildfires. Mark Halford, 49, of Newport, pleaded guilty to several shoplifting offences involving Tesco Express and Asda Express stores, stealing detergent, fabric softener, chocolates and cheese worth hundreds of pounds. He also admitted threatening a police chief inspector with a hypodermic needle and committing separate public-order offences involving Aaron Suller and Rebecca Payne. He was remanded in custody, with his case sent to the crown court for sentencing on September 7.

Newport man and woman sentenced over cocaine supply offences
Alex Bristow and Emily Short pleaded guilty to offering to supply cocaine in Newport between July 2023 and April 2024, while Rachael Bristow admitted possessing £1,635 in criminal property. Bristow and Short each received 18-month prison sentences suspended for 18 months, and Rachael Bristow received an eight-month suspended sentence. All three must complete rehabilitation requirements and pay a £187 victim surcharge. Newport 'Drink' Driver Hit 49mph in 20mph Zone During Chase
Kurt Higgs, 34, drove erratically and at up to 49mph in a 20mph zone during several police pursuits in Newport while intoxicated, sometimes travelling on the wrong side of the road. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen, driving without insurance and theft after allegedly stealing two bottles of Desperados. The court heard that he had been suicidal and drinking heavily, and that he had voluntarily sought treatment at St Cadoc's Hospital. Newport Crown Court suspended his eight-month prison sentence for 18 months, ordered 150 hours of unpaid work and rehabilitation activities, and disqualified him from driving for two years subject to an extended retest.

Gwent Police Officer Faces Gross Misconduct Hearing
Gwent Police officer PC 2101 Sean Llewellyn is due to face a public gross misconduct hearing in Cwmbran on August 16 and 17 over allegations that he accessed police information and communicated it to another person between April and July 2021. A panel will determine whether the allegations are proven and, if so, impose a sanction that could include dismissal. Victim and witness identities will be protected where appropriate.

Abertillery Man, 74, Pleads Guilty to Child Sex Offence
Ken Dobbs, 74, of Six Bells, Abertillery, pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate sexually with someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl. The person was an adult decoy, and the charge was prosecuted under the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. Sentencing was adjourned for a pre-sentence report, with Dobbs granted conditional bail requiring him to preserve his browsing history and provide digital devices to police if requested. He is due to be sentenced at Newport Magistrates' Court on August 27.

Newport drug dealer caught after rivals rammed car off road
Kieran McKenzie, 34, of Newport, pleaded guilty to multiple cocaine and crack cocaine offences after being arrested in Spennymoor and later Newport. Police recovered drugs, cannabis and messages indicating supply to customers; he had also been targeted by rival dealers over a £35,000 debt. Despite 18 previous convictions, this was his first drug-trafficking conviction. Cardiff Crown Court imposed a 27-month-and-three-week sentence suspended for 28 months, along with rehabilitation requirements, a £500 fine, and forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.

He had nearly five times the legal limit of a cocaine metabolite in his blood when he struck Janette Howells on Beechwood Road. Newport drug dealer caught red-handed with cannabis
Klejdi Gjana, 24, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates' Court to possessing cannabis with intent to supply, possessing £600 in criminal property, and driving without a licence or insurance. He received concurrent 20-week prison sentences suspended for 12 months, reduced from 30 weeks because of his guilty pleas. The court said he had played a significant role in a drug-supply chain. Ebbw Vale man, 22, admits false imprisonment of woman
Ieuan Jones, 22, of Ebbw Vale, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court to falsely imprisoning and intentionally strangling a woman, as well as assault by beating. The offences occurred between June 27 and June 28. Judge Carl Matthew Harrison remanded Jones in custody pending sentencing on August 6.

Man punched and kicked his girlfriend's mother in Risca

Rogue driver wrote off disabled man’s Motability car
Repeat offender Jack Heard stole a disabled man’s Ford Focus in Pontypool and drove at around 90mph in a 30mph zone during a police chase, ultimately crashing the car and leaving the victim housebound and nearly £500 out of pocket. Seven months later, Heard fled another pursuit in Cwmbran while driving disqualified, speeding through a 20mph zone and hitting a Ford Transit van. He pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and related offences. With 21 previous convictions, he was sentenced to two years in prison, disqualified from driving for three years after release, and ordered to complete an extended retest and pay a £228 victim surcharge.

Newport council worker admits £9,400 purchasing card fraud
Daniel Baldwin, 33, pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates’ Court to fraud by false representation after using a Newport City Council purchasing card for £9,421.23 in personal spending between September 2 and October 22, 2025. RTB Ebbw Vale FC juniors chairman stole £22,000 from club
Karl Morecroft, the former junior-section chairman of RTB Ebbw Vale FC, pleaded guilty to stealing more than £22,000 from the club over 15 months to support a cocaine habit. He used false invoices and documents purporting to cover payments to HMRC, Blaenau Gwent Council and suppliers, while diverting the money to his own account. The theft placed the club, which supports about 330 children, under severe financial and cash-flow pressure. Morecroft received a 20-month prison sentence suspended for two years, was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and a rehabilitation programme, and must repay £21,259 within three years or face imprisonment.

Rolex drug dealer from Newport made £475,000 from crime
Graham Price, 36, of Newport, was ordered to repay £475,000 at a proceeds-of-crime hearing after police found cocaine, £81,000 in cash, a £40,000 Rolex watch and phones at his home. He had previously pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing criminal property, receiving a four-year-and-four-month prison sentence. The court ordered that failure to pay the full amount could result in another consecutive four-year sentence; some assets are reportedly held in cryptocurrency and property.
