Obituary: Ken McCurrach, Scottish rugby player picked to play for Australia
Ken McCurrach, born in Keith in 1946, became a prominent Scottish rugby player before emigrating to Australia with his wife, Joy, in 1969. He represented Western Australia against touring All Blacks, Springboks and France teams, then was selected for Australia’s 1973 tour of England and Wales, playing five matches but not appearing in the Tests and therefore not receiving an official cap. A respected captain at Eastwood Rugby Club, he later worked as a civil engineer on projects including in Saipan and Guam. McCurrach also enjoyed golf and became an accomplished bagpiper, competing in the 2012 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow. He died in Sydney on June 17, 2026, aged 80, and is survived by his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
