Tupac trial: Murder suspect’s attorney tells jurors not to believe his client
Duane “Keffe D” Davis’s defense attorney has urged jurors not to believe Davis’s claims in interviews and his memoir, arguing that they are unsupported and may have been fabricated to sell books. Davis is accused of orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s 1996 killing and has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say his own public statements helped provide the evidence needed for his arrest, while Nevada law allows him to be charged even if he did not fire the weapon. Legal experts say the strategy could create reasonable doubt but risks undermining Davis if he testifies, since prosecutors could confront him with his contradictory accounts. The highly publicized trial is expected to last up to six weeks.
