Energy drinks to be banned for under-16s in England from April
England will ban the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to under-16s from April, targeting products exceeding 150mg of caffeine per litre across shops, hospitality venues and online sales. The policy aims to address child obesity, sleep disruption and concentration issues, following strong consultation support. Public Health Minister Sharon Hodgson highlighted the health benefits, while health organizations backed the move. The British Soft Drinks Association criticized the ban as unnecessary, noting existing voluntary restrictions. The rule will be enforced by local authorities under the Food Safety Act, with fines for non-compliance. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are also considering similar measures.
