It is 2019 and Nigeria is still the highest contributor to maternal mortality in Central and Western Africa. The country also accounts for 14% of the global maternal mortality.
According to the World Health Organization, In 2008 when Nigeria's, maternal mortality ratio (MMR) was at 545/100,000 live births, it placed the country as the second highest country with that number of annual maternal deaths in the world.
Infrastructure and facilities within the three tier national health system are inadequate and not well maintained; most facilities also lack appropriately trained healthcare workers.This is a picture of the delivery room in refurbished PHC within the metropolis.
Armed banditry and kidnapping on the highway between Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria has become a route more feared than traveled these days. Luckily, there is a train service that runs too but it is not without its own unique challenges. Ticket racketeering.
So, if you need to get on that train without have to pay over 50% more than your ticket really costs? Wake up 3 hours earlier for the 1st train that leaves at 7:55am! This picture was taken at 4:30am at the Kubwa station.
When mother's milk is not enough.....therapeutic food comes to the rescue but not every child is lucky enough to get that. Many die without the world knowing any better.
Hungry and malnourished. That is the lot of many children in Nigeria today. Especially in Northern Nigeria! Children and their mothers wait in line to receive the RUTF- life giving food.
Every day, as school children in their clusters pass me by, either on their way to or from school, I can not help but marvel and how they never cease to find things to talk about. Endless chatter. To some, mindless chatter. Yet, to those who know, there are nuggets of wisdom to be gotten from those "endless stream" of words.
This is a jingle I was contracted to produce for the 1st Baptist Church's centenary celebrations in 2018. It was voiced and sound designed by me.
