Post Office reveals major update to controversial Horizon
The Post Office has signed a contract with OneView Commerce to provide a new electronic point-of-sale system as part of its plan to replace the controversial Horizon platform. Accenture will assume day-to-day responsibility for the existing system from Fujitsu and help develop the new back end, while Escher will provide another replacement component. Horizon-related errors led to more than 900 wrongful convictions between 1999 and 2015; 102 convictions have since been overturned, following landmark legal action by 555 subpostmasters. Detailed implementation plans and a timeline are still being developed, and no immediate operational changes are expected for customers or postmasters.
