Amy Hunt's former Grantham Athletic Club sprint coach Ian Richards and club chair Phil Garner have praised the 24-year-old athlete after her success at the European Athletics Championships. Hunt, who joined the Lincolnshire club at age 12, won gold in the women's 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and mixed 4x100m relay. Her achievements have inspired young athletes at the club and made her a leading contender for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Hundreds of motorcyclists and visitors attended Hornsea’s annual bike show at Hall Garth Park, which featured motorcycles and trikes, live music, stalls and fairground rides. Organised by Hornsea Events with volunteer support, the free event has grown since launching in 2015; organisers hope to increase attendance from last year’s 1,500 bikes to 2,000. Judges selected 14 winners across categories including vintage, classic and three-wheeled motorcycles, while visitors praised the variety and friendly atmosphere.

A remembrance service was held at Hull's cenotaph on the 81st anniversary of VJ Day, commemorating Japan's surrender on 15 August 1945. Hull City Council had the cenotaph and nearby Boer War monument carefully cleaned by hand in July. Veterans, families and local officials praised the restored monuments, with the work also carrying personal significance for cleaner Joel Haigh, whose grandfather served in the D-Day landings.

Thousands attended Humber Rescue’s open day at Hessle Foreshore in East Yorkshire, where visitors enjoyed family activities, rescue demonstrations and meetings with volunteer crew members. Organiser Yusef Forster said the self-funded charity depends entirely on public donations and that the event was important for fundraising and raising awareness of its round-the-clock service across the Humber Estuary and surrounding rivers. HM Coastguard representative Alan Stewart praised the charity and used the event to promote water safety following recent deaths and a major search off the East Yorkshire coast.

A flotilla of vessels recreated the 1826 arrival that marked the founding of Goole as part of the town’s 200th anniversary celebrations. The event highlighted the historical role of the Aire and Calder Navigation Company in extending waterways to develop the port, enabling coal shipments from Yorkshire to Europe. Local participants, including descendants of former boat captains and the current captain of a historic fly-boat built in Goole, emphasized the importance of recognising the town’s maritime heritage and the labour that shaped its development.
