Bury defeated Warrington Rylands 1-0 at Gigg Lane, with DJ Pedro heading home Kai Evans’s cross to score the only goal. Bury missed a penalty and several other chances, while goalkeeper Mitch Allen made important saves to preserve the lead. Warrington applied increasing pressure after halftime, but Bury held on despite Pedro being sent off during a late off-the-ball incident.

Bury opened the season with a goalless draw away to Redcar Athletic in Teesside. Redcar applied early pressure, but Bury contained their highly rated attack before controlling much of the second half. Bury created several chances through Rustam Stepans, Oscar Threlkeld and Carr, while Redcar threatened on the counter, but goalkeeper Josh Mazfari denied the visitors repeatedly and both sides settled for a point.
