Swimming pool fights to stay open after anti-social behaviour planning dispute
Ossett Leisure Limited is seeking retrospective permission to continue operating a private-hire swimming pool on Station Road in Ossett. The revised proposal limits bookings to eight people, staggers sessions, reduces opening hours, removes amplified music and relies on on-site parking, following an earlier refusal and a March 2026 enforcement appeal decision. Nearby residents continue to object, citing anti-social behaviour, noise, parking congestion and disruption to their quality of life.

Former Castleford church could become new youth hub and indoor skate park
A vacant former church in Castleford could be converted into a youth hub, alternative education centre and indoor skate park if Wakefield Council approves Frontside’s change-of-use application. The proposed facility would support excluded and home-educated young people during the day and offer supervised skateboarding, scooting, workshops, mentoring and community activities at other times. Around £75,000 would be invested in internal refurbishment, including accessibility improvements, an IT suite, community kitchen and skate facilities, without external changes to the building. Of 21 public comments, 19 support the scheme, citing a shortage of local youth provision, while two objectors raise concerns about noise, traffic, parking and evening disturbance in the residential area.
