Giant 'cruise liner' warehouses make life 'hell' for neighbours with relentless HGV noise
Residents living beside four large warehouses at Astley Business Park in Tyldesley, Wigan, say constant HGV movements and overnight logistics noise are seriously disrupting their lives. Whistl is operating from one unit and has applied to base up to 60 goods vehicles and 95 trailers there, while Grace Overseas is preparing to occupy another unit. Campaigners also cite the buildings' visual impact, loss of sunlight, flooding and intrusive security systems. Wigan Council says it is investigating noise complaints, while Whistl says it is monitoring noise and taking mitigation measures; Grace Overseas says it will generally operate during daytime hours. The development was approved in 2024, and residents remain concerned that disruption will worsen when all four warehouses become operational.
