The Hells Angels and rival Pagans motorcycle gangs became involved in a violent territorial conflict in southern Massachusetts after the Pagans established a chapter in Fall River near Hells Angels territory. According to an FBI search warrant, more than 100 Hells Angels riders traveled toward the Pagans’ clubhouse, where a group attacked with knives, clubs and ball-peen hammers. Several Pagans were injured, including one who still had a dagger embedded in his body when police arrived. The victims were hospitalized, while the attackers fled, changed clothes and dispersed; investigators warned that further violence was likely, although no deaths were reported in the account.

Members of the Hells Angels’ Sonoma and Fresno chapters in California have been linked to a series of violent crimes. Former chapter leader Merl Hefferman received a 10-year sentence after a racketeering conviction involving the illegal cremation of bodies at a Fresno funeral home nicknamed the “pizza oven.” Former Sonoma leader Raymond “Ray Ray” Foakes was convicted of racketeering, witness intimidation, assault and sexual assault after beating a former member and forcibly tattooing his forehead.
