‘Beyond my imagination’: Neil Fachie bounces back from dramatic crash to land seventh Commonwealth Games gold
Neil Fachie ended his international cycling career by winning a seventh Commonwealth Games gold medal in the tandem sprint at Glasgow 2026. After crashing with pilot Aaron Pope during the deciding race against Wales, the Scottish pair were allowed a restart and won the subsequent ride despite their injuries and limited training. Fachie, who had largely retired after Paris 2024 while working at Amazon and raising his son, said the victory and the chance to hear “Flower of Scotland” in the velodrome exceeded his expectations. He hopes the achievement will raise the profile of tandem and para cycling.

Home favourite Banks one win away from Commonwealth medal chance
Scotland's Jason Banks kept his Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games medal hopes alive by overcoming Wales's Ross Owen in a one-end tie-break after losing the opening set. Banks will face England's Sam Tolchard in a winner-takes-all men's singles bowls match, with both now ahead of Fiji's Rajnesh Prasad on points difference. Banks previously lost to Tolchard in a Tri-Nations match but will have the backing of the home crowd at the SEC Centre.
