Charities celebrate after receiving funds from unique fundraiser

Couriers convicted over attempt to import £13.8 million of cannabis through Birmingham Airport
Eleven couriers have been convicted or pleaded guilty over an attempt to smuggle 460 kilograms of cannabis, worth an estimated £13.8 million, into the UK through Birmingham Airport. The group arrived from Thailand via Paris with 22 suitcases containing vacuum-packed cannabis, some fitted with Apple AirTag trackers. Border Force officers seized the drugs and arrested the couriers in August 2024. The National Crime Agency, Border Force and Crown Prosecution Service described the operation as highly coordinated and warned that drug smuggling carries serious criminal and personal consequences. Sentencing hearings are scheduled for September 3 and October 22, 2026.

Staffordshire Council sees record number of potholes filled in July
