The family car caught travelling at 137mph on the M6 near Coventry
West Midlands Police data obtained through a Freedom of Information request shows that the highest recorded speed in the region over the previous 12 months was 137mph, by a Škoda on the M6 near Coventry. The top ten incidents, all on the M6, M5 or M42, involved speeds from 125mph to 137mph; seven were detected by cameras and three by police officers. Most occurred under the national 70mph limit, with one recorded in a 60mph variable-limit zone, while the penalties imposed were not disclosed.
