He thought it was an insect bite—but now doctors have given him months to live
Chris Capstick, 41, from Bromborough, initially believed a changing lump on his back was an insect bite or harmless cyst. After it was removed in February 2023, testing revealed stage-four melanoma. Following lymph-node surgery and 13 months of immunotherapy, he was briefly cancer-free, but six brain tumours and six further tumours were later discovered. Doctors gave him an estimated 10 to 12 months to live, although five brain tumours have since disappeared and he currently has no fixed prognosis. While coping with treatment side effects and high liver enzymes, Chris and his family are supporting a children's book written by his six-year-old daughter, Isabella, to help children understand a parent's serious illness; more than £630 has been raised to distribute it to cancer centres and hospices.
