Man turned up at RAF Valley with knife and axe after threatening to stab guard
David Mottershead cycled to RAF Valley on Anglesey carrying a knife and an axe after calling the base and threatening to stab a security guard. The 45-year-old had spoken about conspiracy theories, biological or chemical weapons and a supposed uprising. A jury found that he made the call and possessed the weapons, but he was deemed unfit to enter a plea. Psychiatric evidence linked the offending to severe and complex mental-health disorders. Judge Timothy Petts imposed a hospital order under section 37 of the Mental Health Act with a section 41 restriction order, allowing treatment to continue while protecting the public.
