Warning as Hampshire council 'at risk of financial crisis'
Hampshire County Council faces a significant projected funding gap, having drawn heavily on reserves last year and budgeting further withdrawals this year. Liberal Democrat councillor Martin Tod warns the authority is in a clear financial crisis and calls for a survival plan that could include tax rises, emergency government support, or borrowing. Conservative leader Nick Adams-King rejects claims of inadequate urgency, asserting that a clear strategy is in place and highlighting more than £130 million in planned savings and efficiencies. The council still faces substantial deficits ahead of the transition to new unitary authorities in 2028.
