Rotherham Council has approved £10,000 toward a feasibility study for a masterplan to restore a nine-mile section of the Chesterfield Canal between Staveley and Kiveton Park. Proposals include a marina at Kiveton Waters, new walking and cycling routes, moorings, flood-defence improvements, restoration of the historic Norwood Flight locks, and repairs around Norwood Tunnel. Further options such as a new tunnel, visitor centre, café and boat lift would require additional funding and approvals. The Chesterfield Canal Trust hopes to refill sections of the canal by its 250th anniversary in 2027.
