The Brief Life and Sudden Death of Zyzz: Why Did the Bodybuilding Influencer Die at Just 22?
Aziz “Zyzz” Shavershian became an early bodybuilding and fitness influencer by combining workout videos, flamboyant self-presentation and provocative online tactics. His sudden death in Thailand in 2011 generated years of speculation, including an unsupported claim that he died of a heart attack in a sauna. Selina Miles’s Stan documentary, made with the cooperation of Zyzz’s parents, reveals that toxicology findings attributed his death to acute respiratory failure caused by the combined use of morphine, cocaine and benzodiazepines; he also had an enlarged heart, though its cause remains uncertain. The film presents Zyzz’s rise, insecurities, substance use and influence on later looksmaxxing and manosphere figures as both a personal tragedy and a warning about the risks facing young men pursuing extreme physiques and online fame.
