Dad died 'trying to rescue his children' in double Seaton Carew sea tragedy
Two men died at Seaton Carew in Hartlepool after entering the sea to help children caught in a riptide. One man, the children's father, attempted to rescue them and was swept away, while a second man walking his dog went in to assist and also drowned. Witness Davey Short helped save one of the children and described the dangerous conditions and chaotic rescue efforts. All three children survived, and police and RNLI teams responded to the incident. Families are being supported as enquiries continue.
