‘Feud sparked’ minutes before fatal A66 crash after victim’s dad’s home ‘rammed by car’
A fatal A66 crash near Middlesbrough killed seven people, including Cleveland Police officers PC Tom Clough and PC Matthew Blades, after a Volkswagen Passat travelling on the wrong side of the dual carriageway collided with their marked patrol car. The crash allegedly followed a ram-raid on the home of Cole Worthy’s father, Gye Worthy, and a pursuit involving a Volvo XC60 and the Passat. Police have made multiple arrests in connection with suspected organised crime, firearms, threats and drug offences, while stressing that claims of rival gang involvement remain unconfirmed. Officials and police representatives have also criticised dangerous driving, filming behind the wheel and social-media content that encourages people to bait officers. Fundraising for the families of the two officers had exceeded £900,000.
