US outbreak of parasite causing ‘watery diarrhea’ rises to more than 2,800 cases
More than 2,800 cyclosporiasis cases have been reported in the US, with Michigan and Ohio especially affected. Health officials cite long incubation and reporting delays as challenges to identifying the outbreak source. Experts argue that cuts made by the Trump administration to public health funding and to the FoodNet surveillance program have weakened outbreak response capacity. Federal agencies maintain that surveillance remains sufficient and investigations are ongoing, while state health authorities urge strict produce washing to limit further spread.

Legionnaires' outbreak rocks New York as experts warn of rising climate threat
A Legionnaires' disease outbreak on Manhattan's Upper East Side has sickened at least 28 people, prompting the New York City health department to test nearly 160 building cooling towers and order 19 buildings to disinfect their systems. Health officials warn that a warming climate is increasing the frequency of such outbreaks as the Legionella bacterium thrives in warm water environments. Experts note that the disease disproportionately affects low‑income and Black communities, despite the current cluster occurring in affluent neighborhoods. Identifying the outbreak source may take weeks and is uncertain, as many smaller outbreaks never yield a confirmed origin. Rising temperatures and a range of unexpected water reservoirs are expected to continue enabling the spread of Legionella.
