The next solar eclipse visible from the UK will be a partial eclipse around 10am on 2 August 2027, covering up to 48% of the Sun in the Scilly Isles and about 13% in the Shetland Isles. The article explains how solar eclipses occur and warns that viewing the Sun directly can permanently damage the retina without causing pain. Certified ISO 12312-2:2015(E) eclipse glasses, solar viewers, or indirect methods such as pinhole projection are recommended. The next total solar eclipse visible from the UK is not expected until 2090, while up to 99% of the Sun will be obscured over the British Isles in September 2081.
