A 10-metre section of former Tyne and Wear Metro track has been unveiled in South Shields’ North Marine Park as part of a memorial to Allied prisoners forced by Japan to build the Thailand-Burma Death Railway during World War Two. A car crashed through the front of a dog grooming salon in Cleadon, destroying part of the building but causing no injuries.
