Joseff Gnagbo, a former asylum seeker from the Ivory Coast, has graduated from Swansea University with a master’s degree by research in Welsh, eight years after arriving in Wales. After receiving support from Oasis Cardiff, he learned Welsh and became active in Welsh-speaking communities. In 2023, he became the first person born outside Wales to chair Cymdeithas yr Iaith, and he was re-elected in 2024. His achievement and language activism are presented as evidence that the Welsh language is open to everyone.

Aberglasney Gardens’ artist in residence Andrew Douglas‑Forbes and jeweller Carol K Gwizdak are collaborating on an exhibition inspired by the Cloister Garden’s historic diaper pattern, running from July 24 to August 2. Both artists draw on their long association and shared interest in nature and detail, while Gwizdak incorporates archival influences. Aberglasney’s director welcomes the show as a tribute to Douglas‑Forbes’ long involvement with the gardens.
