Northampton Town and Swindon Town drew 0-0 in the opening League Two match of the season at Sixfields Stadium. Northampton manager Chris Hogg was encouraged by his side's attitude, defensive organization and clean sheet, while predicting that Swindon would be among the division's leading teams. Swindon manager Ian Holloway admitted his team lacked shots, chances and cohesion, attributing those shortcomings in part to Northampton's approach and saying his players would learn from the experience.

Paul Glatzel missed Swindon Town's opening League Two match at Northampton after experiencing hamstring tightness during the final training session. The forward, who recently signed a contract through 2029 and had returned from a serious hamstring rupture, is expected to recover in time for the weekend match against Cheltenham Town. Manager Ian Holloway described the decision to leave him out as precautionary, while Swindon continue to manage a lengthy list of injured players.
