Call for review into Chinook crash involving Major Hornby from Bolton
Families of the 29 military personnel killed in the 1994 RAF Chinook crash on Scotland’s Mull of Kintyre are urging Prime Minister Andy Burnham to meet them within his first 100 days and order an independent review into the helicopter’s airworthiness and the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Chinook Justice Campaign says a High Court ruling prevented its claim against the Ministry of Defence from proceeding because it was filed too late, although its legal team may appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. The families argue that the 2011 inquiry did not establish the cause of the crash and are seeking access to documents and a review independent of the Ministry of Defence. Their campaign has received support from former defence secretary Liam Fox and is being linked to the proposed Hillsborough Law, which would impose a legal duty of candour on public authorities.
