John Glen: I'm ready to help NHS leaders respond to CQC
John Glen says he will support Salisbury District Hospital and local NHS leaders after the Care Quality Commission downgraded the hospital from good to requires improvement. He acknowledges strong staff commitment and care outcomes but says surgical facilities and practices may be creating elevated risks that require urgent action, alongside development of a new Diagnostic and Surgical Hub. He also argues that housing developments should provide infrastructure such as roads, pharmacies, mobile coverage and internet access from the outset. On assisted dying, Glen says the issue should receive the full scrutiny given to government legislation rather than being handled through a Private Members’ Bill, and argues that resources would be better directed toward consistently high-quality palliative care.

Running a summer school for young people interested in politics
John Glen describes a summer school he organized for 17- to 20-year-olds interested in politics. The programme covers candidate selection, local government, community consultation on Salisbury’s £20 million Pride in Place grant, food-bank volunteering, election campaigning, constituency casework and a visit to Parliament. Glen hopes the experience will build participants’ skills and inform their future careers, while also gathering their views on the new prime minister and current national policy debates. He criticizes the uncertainty surrounding proposed taxation and spending measures and supports Kemi Badenoch’s call for Andy Burnham to oppose provisions in Labour’s Sentencing Act that could enable the early release of serious offenders.
