Iron Age burial site found on proposed site of Haydon homes
Archaeological surveys at a proposed development site near Haydon uncovered an Iron Age human burial and the remains of a dog and cow. Despite the discovery, Bath and North East Somerset Council officers recommend approving the Silverwood Partnership’s plan for 115 homes, arguing that the archaeology has already been excavated. Local residents and councillor Lesley Mansell oppose the scheme, saying it would increase the village’s size by almost half and cause an excessive change to the community. Any approval would require the archaeological findings to be fully analysed and published.

Bath kebab van's 3.40am opening plan incurs wrath of hotel
Jimmy’s Kebab in Bath was refused permission to extend its opening hours from 3:00 a.m. to 3:40 a.m. The van’s owner, Mehmet Yilmaz, argued that the late-night location was already busy and that the business’s CCTV and food service could help reduce nuisance. The nearby Abbey Hotel said customers leaving nightclubs gathered at the van and had caused enough noise that 30–40 guests were moved to different rooms. Bath and North East Somerset Council’s licensing subcommittee rejected the application because of its potential impact on neighbours, prompting criticism from Yilmaz’s licensing representative, Bill Donne.
