SailGP managing director Andy Thompson says the sailing series is drawing lessons from Formula 1 to accelerate its growth, particularly in engineering, logistics and event operations. SailGP has recruited Formula 1-experienced engineers and logistics staff, while its centrally manufactured F50 hydrofoil boats allow 13 teams to compete with equal machinery. The comments come before the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth on 25–26 July, where Australia leads the standings and reigning world champions Emirates GBR sit third.

Zac Shaw prepares for the 2026 Commonwealth Games while reflecting on the loss of his mother, whose cancer relapse shaped his most challenging year. Despite continuing to compete during her illness, he stepped back from some events to support her, later returning to training shortly after her death. Shaw recounts the emotional demands surrounding his past championships, including his silver medal in Birmingham and his eventual Paralympic success in Paris. Supported by National Lottery funding, he aims to compete in Glasgow with renewed purpose and in memory of his mother.
