A proposed U.S. rule would limit how much hospitals participating in the 340B discount drug program can bill Medicare, aiming to prevent large markups and lower patient costs. CMS estimates Medicare beneficiaries could save $1.1 billion next year and around $20 billion over a decade. The rule follows an executive order surveying drug purchasing costs and would cap reimbursement at the average sales price minus 33.4%. A similar effort in 2018 was blocked by the Supreme Court.
