Food recall as potentially fatal E. coli found in product
A.Vogel Ltd is recalling 30g packs of Rapunzel bioSnacky Das Original Red Clover Seeds for Sprouts and Seedlings in the UK after Shiga toxin-producing E. coli was detected. The affected batch is 11293, with a best-before date of December 2028. Consumers are advised not to grow or consume the seeds or resulting sprouts and to return them for a full refund. Possible symptoms include severe, sometimes bloody, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and haemolytic uremic syndrome, which can cause kidney failure and be fatal. The Food Standards Agency has instructed retailers to display recall notices and advised those with symptoms to stay away from work, school or nursery for at least 48 hours after symptoms stop.

Warning of new rules for Aldi and Lidl after watchdog review
The Competition and Markets Authority has provisionally proposed adding Aldi, Lidl GB and Lidl NI to the grocery land rules that already apply to the UK’s largest supermarket chains. The rules would prevent them from using restrictive land agreements to block rival stores from opening nearby. The CMA says the discounters now meet the criteria for large grocery retailers because of their store footprint, nationwide presence, procurement structures and broad product ranges. Stakeholders can submit views by September 7, 2026, with a final decision expected in the autumn.
