Deaf Percussionist to Wow Listeners at Late Night Proms
Dame Evelyn Glennie is set to make her 19th Proms appearance, and her first Late Night Prom performance, alongside the BBC Singers and Fantasia Orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The deaf, double Grammy-winning percussionist discusses experiencing music through bodily vibration, performing barefoot and using the halo instrument. She also describes her work through the Evelyn Glennie Foundation to promote listening, disability inclusion and music education, as well as her extensive Cambridgeshire collection of percussion instruments and musical memorabilia. Glennie reflects on her career, her role in the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony and the continued importance of practice, curiosity and access to music.
