Drought: Bombs and Nazi warships revealed as rivers dry up across Europe
Extreme heat and drought across Europe have caused the Danube River to reach its lowest level in 30 years, exposing at least 20 World War II shipwrecks and unexploded ammunition in Serbia, Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia. Low water levels and wildfires have also revealed or detonated hundreds of bombs in France, while scientists in Bulgaria discovered what may be mammoth bones. In the United Kingdom, dried grass has exposed the foundations of a medieval monastery and the outline of a 17th-century ornamental garden. The conditions are linked to low rainfall, rising temperatures and climate change, which is warming Europe faster than any other continent.
