Pupils Perform ABBA Songs for St Helen's Park Birthday
Pupils from Wykeham Primary School marked the 50th anniversary of St Helen's Caravan Park by performing ABBA songs and creating artwork for a postcard competition. Year 6 pupil Georgia won, and her postcard was sold in the campsite shop to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses. Executive headteacher Rowena Thorp described the site as an important venue for Forest Schools, sports and curriculum activities, while noting its history as a limestone quarry.

Norton College GCSE students praised for their results
Year 11 students at Norton College were congratulated on their GCSE results, with the school reporting another increase in attainment across subjects. Executive Headteacher Domenica Wilkinson and Head of School Samuel Stones praised the students’ hard work, resilience and commitment, and wished them success in further study, apprenticeships, employment or other future plans.

Annual maintenance closure at Sutton Bank to be extended
Sutton Bank will be closed from 7am on September 13 until 7pm on October 4 for an extended programme of maintenance. North Yorkshire Council will undertake rock-face, drainage and road repairs as part of a three-year plan to improve the route’s safety, resilience and long-term condition. Access to homes will generally be maintained, although temporary restrictions are possible, and motorists, residents and businesses are advised to use diversion routes.

The Buck Inn, Thornton Le Dale, to reopen after £490k revamp
The Buck Inn in Thornton-le-Dale is scheduled to reopen in the coming weeks following a £490,000 internal and external refurbishment by owner Punch Pubs & Co. New management partner Adrian McShane-Chapman, an Australian former HR professional with previous hospitality experience, aims to establish the venue as a destination pub and community gathering place. The work will preserve the pub’s fireplaces, bars and distinctive features while improving the dining room, kitchen and rear beer garden. Punch operations manager Hannah Martin also thanked outgoing publicans Pete and Abbie for their five years at the pub.

Letter: Thank You for Saving Cauwood Day Centre, Malton
Campaigners secured the continuation of Cauwood Day Centre, which provides support for vulnerable and disabled adults in Ryedale. Although the Malton building could not be saved, the service will move to a renovated replacement site in Pickering, with possible satellite provision in Malton in the longer term. Caroline Garrod thanks the councillors, councils, charities, media organizations and more than 2,000 petition signatories who supported the campaign.

A170 near Pickering reopens in North Yorkshire after crash
The A170 at Middleton, west of Pickering, reopened in both directions after being closed following a serious crash. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene, and North Yorkshire Police advised drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes while the response was ongoing.

Owners of Derek Fox’s in Malton ‘hurt’ by closure rumours
Fox’s Butchers in Malton will remain open despite rumours that it was closing following the death of former owner Derek Fox. His children, Melanie Wright and Shaun, said the rumours were untrue and hurtful, and pledged to continue the family business and their father’s legacy. The shop has been operated by the Fox family for more than 180 years.

St Nicholas Street in Norton shut due to water leak
St Nicholas Street in Norton, North Yorkshire, is partially closed between Welham Road and the St Nicholas Street car park while Yorkshire Water repairs a leak. Councillor Di Keal said the leak had worsened, spreading water across the road, and criticized the length of time it had remained unresolved amid drought conditions.
