A planning officer has rejected an application to allow the resin and bronze statue of Lord Nelson and Sir George Murray to remain permanently in North Street, Chichester, citing concerns that the resin material would deteriorate and harm the Conservation Area and nearby Grade II* listed building. The council’s conservation officer noted the statue’s limited lifespan, susceptibility to weathering and structural issues, and its smaller-than-life scale, which contrasted with traditional public-realm statues. The extension previously granted will not be made permanent.
