Succession challenges facing family businesses in spotlight
A Herald business breakfast in Glasgow examined the challenges Scottish family businesses face when planning leadership and ownership succession. Leaders from Wholesale Domestic, Gillies & Mackay, Dickie & Moore Construction and Vittoria Hospitality Group discussed family legacy, communication, changing responsibilities, non-family executives and the risk of losing senior staff through opaque decisions. Speakers emphasized that succession should be planned early, discussed openly and balanced against both business needs and family expectations. The event also promoted the upcoming Scottish Family Business Awards, with entries open until September 17 and the ceremony scheduled for November 19.
