Councillors approved detailed plans for a 425-home rented residential quarter beside Cambridge North railway station. The scheme will include parks, retail space, pocket gardens and 711 bicycle spaces, but only 22 resident car parking spaces, prompting strong objections from a South Cambridgeshire councillor and Milton Parish Council. A separate 600-space car park is intended for commercial users. The development is a joint venture involving Blocwork, Network Rail, Grainger and Platform4 Rail Regeneration, and follows government approval of the outline proposal in 2024. The decision comes shortly before revised national planning rules are due to make housing development near railway stations easier.
