Pregnant mum thought symptoms were sign of milk coming in before shock breast cancer diagnosis
Alex Cheshire-Round, 29, discovered she had stage-three breast cancer while pregnant after initially mistaking hard breast tissue for early milk production. Doctors removed a 5cm lump and lymph nodes at Coventry hospital when she was 33 weeks pregnant; her daughter Lexi was delivered prematurely after becoming distressed during Alex's recovery. Alex is awaiting further treatment, likely chemotherapy, and is concerned about fertility, hair loss, fatigue, bonding with her children and her future. She urges pregnant women to have unusual bodily changes checked rather than attributing them to pregnancy hormones.
