Martin Frizell shared a photograph of his wife, television presenter Fiona Phillips, who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 2023, and urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to take stronger action on Alzheimer’s disease and social care. He argued that dementia has been neglected compared with cancer and called for adequate funding for families affected by the condition. The Alzheimer’s Society supported his appeal and welcomed the government’s stated commitment to social care reform. Phillips has also written the memoir Remember When with Frizell to support others living with dementia; Alzheimer’s remains progressive and has no cure, although some medicines can temporarily ease symptoms.
