Dry and hot weather has increased wildfire risks across the UK, with authorities warning the public to avoid disposable barbecues, campfires, fireworks and careless cigarette disposal. A temporary ban on disposable barbecues has been introduced in England, Wales and Scotland, while an emergency mobile alert urged people to call 999 immediately upon spotting a fire. The British Red Cross advises people to report the fire’s location and size, move away from vegetation and smoke, avoid trying to extinguish the fire themselves, and close windows, vents and doors while ensuring firefighters can access buildings safely.

Tony Livesey has left BBC Radio 5 Live after 16 years, ending his weekday late-night presenting role. His departure follows allegations against his former newspaper employer, David Sullivan, including claims involving women who were teenagers at the time; Sullivan denies the allegations. Livesey, who previously edited Sullivan-owned Daily and Sunday Sport, denied arranging an alleged meeting between Sullivan and a woman and said he had no recollection of the introduction. Station controller Heidi Dawson thanked him for his work and wished him well.
