Met Office apologises for mistake on UK solar eclipse map
The Met Office apologised after publishing a UK solar eclipse map that placed Northern Ireland’s Lough Neagh incorrectly. The partial eclipse on August 12, 2026, is expected to cover roughly 90–96% of the Sun as viewed from the UK, with London’s maximum obscuration forecast for 7:12pm and the event ending at 8:06pm. Royal Museums Greenwich advised viewers to find a high point with a clear western horizon, while the Met Office warned against looking directly at the Sun and recommended certified eclipse glasses or a pinhole projector.
