Detectives in Wakefield have been granted more time to question a 55-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and owning a dangerously out-of-control dog. The case follows the death in hospital of another 55-year-old man who was attacked by a suspected German shepherd on a footpath near Blacker Lane in Calder Grove. Police have interviewed two people who assisted the victim, seized the dog, and appealed for further witnesses while warning against online speculation.

Robert Bush, the former operator of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, is facing sentencing at Hull Crown Court after pleading guilty to 31 additional charges, including preventing the lawful and decent burial of 30 deceased people and stealing from charities, alongside previously admitted fraud offences. Jasmine Beverley told the court that her stillborn son Sunny’s remains were found nearly two years later in a brown paper bag on the floor of Bush’s premises, despite the family believing they had received his ashes. Three other women also received incorrect ashes for their babies. The hearing heard that Bush exploited grieving families to fund his lifestyle, and he remains in custody pending sentencing.
