New treatment for rare cancer approved for use by NHS Scotland
The Scottish Medicines Consortium has approved cabozantinib, marketed as Cabometyx, for eligible adults in Scotland with advanced neuroendocrine tumours. The rare cancers affect around seven people per 100,000 in Scotland and are often diagnosed late, while treatment options can be limited after progression. Clinicians and Neuroendocrine Cancer UK say the oral drug could improve disease control, reduce hospital time and provide renewed hope, while manufacturer Ipsen welcomed the decision as an expansion of options for patients.
