Pair avoid custody after unprovoked Sunderland bus station attack which left woman unconscious
Teenagers Thomas Courtney and Lincoln Hudson avoided immediate custody after pleading guilty to offences arising from an unprovoked attack on two people at Sunderland's Park Lane Interchange in June 2023. The female victim suffered facial injuries, while the male victim was kicked unconscious, sustained internal bleeding, developed depression and later attempted suicide; Hudson also filmed him and shared the footage on Snapchat, and Courtney stole his phone. Newcastle Crown Court imposed two-year prison terms suspended for two years, alongside 30 days of rehabilitation and 250 hours of unpaid work. The judge cited the defendants' subsequent efforts to change their lives but warned that breaching the sentence could result in imprisonment.
