Drivers are urged to refuel before a heatwave due to higher fuel consumption caused by hot weather and the increased use of air conditioning or open windows. Temperatures in southern England are expected to peak at around 32C, with the heat reducing fuel efficiency and making fuel gauges less reliable. Rising fuel prices following unrest in Iran add pressure to avoid unnecessary consumption. Experts advise refuelling early to prevent running low while stuck in traffic, and clarify that myths about cars exploding in hot weather are unfounded. Fuel efficiency is optimal between 15C and 20C, and declines in both very cold and very hot conditions.
