An inquest is examining whether Caroline Savage, 73, died after increasing her privately prescribed Mounjaro dose and whether hospital clinicians should have investigated her abdominal pain more thoroughly. Savage developed severe pain, was assessed at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and discharged without a CT scan or surgical referral, then collapsed and died hours later from faecal peritonitis caused by an intestinal perforation. Her family argues that her symptoms were too readily attributed to Mounjaro side effects and that communication, documentation and clinical decision-making were inadequate. Hospital representatives say her observations, blood tests and ultrasound were reassuring and that the outcome was extremely difficult to predict. The coroner has adjourned a decision on whether the inquest should consider Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
