Residents evacuated from town centre building as fire services attend
Residents were evacuated from Marsden House on Marsden Road in Bolton after smoke from cooking food at a ground-floor business triggered the building’s fire alarm. Around six fire appliances, including an aerial platform, initially attended; the response was later reduced to two engines. Firefighters completed safety checks, the incident was closed within about an hour, and residents were allowed to return.

Several cars involved in crash near Bolton town centre
A multi-car crash on Derby Street near Moor Lane in Bolton caused traffic disruption on Friday evening, with at least four vehicles sustaining significant damage. Police attended, but Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was not called. The road was cleared by 9pm after recovery teams removed the vehicles.

New details after death of Karl Holland, 18, at Dovestone
An inquest was opened at Rochdale Coroners' Court into the death of 18-year-old Karl Holland, who drowned at Dovestone Reservoir on July 10 after an inflatable mattress carrying him and two friends slid into the water. His friends survived, but Holland did not resurface despite emergency resuscitation attempts. The court heard there were no suspicious circumstances, while the cause of death remained pending toxicology results. A full inquest was scheduled for October 15, and Greater Manchester Police reiterated warnings about the dangers of entering open water.
